The castle built around a 1320 Pele Tower, was given by Robert The Bruce to the Earl of Moray.
It has been in the hands of the present owner's family since 1696. Over the years it has been considerably enlarged and embellished. Set in its own expansive grounds, Castle Scotland 1749 is a magnificent family home enjoying an all too rare sense of serenity and timelessness. The current owner is dedicated to retaining this essential character of the Castle and Estate. At the same time the building has been renovated to provide as much comfort as possible. Guests are assured a friendly welcome and an entertaining stay in the company of your most charming hosts. Although the Estate borders the country town of Duns, it enjoys complete seclusion. The interior of the Castle boasts fine examples of intricately carved wood and plaster work and is beautifully furnished. The whole aspect of the castle is sunny and south facing. The dining room is a dramatic, warmly paneled room with a richly carved fireplace and original 14th century walls. The tastefully decorated bedrooms are all centrally heated, each room having its own individual charm. The essence of the arrangement at Castle Scotland 1749 is that visitors are treated in every respect as guests in a private home. Dinner in the large dining room will be an abiding memory for every guest.
