Cannes Chateau 20916 is a very elegant property, offering in the Main House 11 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms and several reception rooms, with over 650 square meters of living space, and an additional Guest House with a further 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, for a total of 28 guests, all on over 150,000 square meters of beautiful grounds.
The property is an ideal venue for those visiting Cannes for the film and other festivals and also simply for luxuriously relaxed holidays in the south of France.
Entry to the chateau is through secluded security gates. The chateau's own winding driveway then ascends the hill until the chateau itself is reached at the top where its panoramic views open out.
To the south and in front of the chateau, is the Mediterranean, and the Alps behind.
The interior of the chateau is spacious with high ceilings, large reception rooms, halls and bedrooms. All the principal reception rooms and eight of the bedrooms have views to the south over the garden and the sea. The other three bedrooms have views of the mountains.
There are two substantial terraces for dining outside, both south facing; one adjacent to the dining and sitting rooms shaded by an umbrella pine tree planted by Queen Victoria over 100 years ago, and the other higher up outside the summer kitchen and shaded by its own blinds.
The main entrance door of the chateau leads into its two main reception halls. These reception halls, with the drawing and dining rooms (which themselves lead on to the main terrace), provide the principal entertaining areas of the chateau. They are furnished with antique Persian carpets, fine English and continental antique furniture and oil paintings.
The drawing room and dining room are each approximately 650 square feet in size and the reception halls areas are much larger.
The drawing room incorporates two towers, has a number of comfortable sofas and armchairs, antique furniture and paintings. It is a large but very relaxing, pleasant room.
The dining room with English Regency dining table can comfortably seat 20 persons.
Both rooms open onto the main terrace where there are substantial teak tables and chairs for holding luncheon or dinner parties outside or merely pre-dinner drinks.
The main kitchen, which is completely modernized and well equipped, is adjacent to the dining room.
Also on the ground floor are a study, laundry, and a downstairs cloakroom.
On the first floor terrace, adjacent to the master bedroom, is the substantial summer kitchen which has beautiful views through all its French windows of the Mediterranean and the Esterel mountains. This was completely modernized in 1999 with all the equipment that one would expect. It has its own dining table and chairs but opens onto its own terrace with further tables and chairs for eating outside whether under the shade of its own blinds or simply soaking up the sun.
On the first and second floors of the chateau are eight large bedrooms at the front, and eight bathrooms, five of which are en-suite.
There is also a library and television room.
All of these bedrooms have views over the principal gardens, the Mediterranean and the Esterel mountains. They are attractively furnished, complementing the lovely old 'tommette' tiled floors with ceiling to floor curtains, warm carpets and rugs and beautiful antique furniture and paintings.
In a separate part of the chateau are a further three bedrooms and bathrooms and a large sitting room. These have all been refurbished to a high standard and are ideal for extra guests or children, who may wish to have their own privacy or, alternatively, for staff.
Almost all of the bathrooms and the plumbing were modernized in the late 1990's. The bathrooms are large, many with modern walk in showers, some simply filling the large round towers.
The chateau is centrally heated. The summer kitchen is heated and air-conditioned.
There is a telephone system and fax, telephones are on all floors and in some bedrooms and they also provide an internal intercom system.
The oval swimming pool 20 X 10 is just at the side of the chateau. It enjoys the sun from early morning until dusk and is heated, when required, outside the summer months. It has its own bathing pavilion converted from a former pigeonnier.
An all weather tennis court is situated on one of the terraces to the side of the chateau. Adjacent to it is a badminton lawn. Both are screened from the chateau by very substantial trees and bushes.
The nearby Guest House provides further and separate accommodation of three bedrooms, three bathrooms, kitchen and reception rooms, for additional guests if needed.
Staff of two caretakers live permanently in separate accommodations on the grounds. One looks after the garden and grounds, maintains the swimming pool and puts out and takes in the chaises lounges and mattresses as required. The other attends the chateau for four hours each weekday to clean, change bed linen and deal with other requirements. They will gladly see to your needs and ensure that your stay meets your own requirements.
The grounds are entered through two separate entrances which are electronically controlled from both the chateau and guardian's house.
There is substantial lighting, controlled from the chateau, around it, in the gardens and down to the Guest House and guardian's accommodation. The chateau has a modern and flexible alarm system and the property benefits from the permanent presence of staff to look after it.
