The historical home of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Leopold II, half way between Lucca and Siena, looking out over the Maremma coastline, is happy to welcome whoever wishes to concede themselves a magical moment of relaxation.
After a very careful restoration, there are 13 bedroom suites available. Rental is for 6 bedrooms minimum, there is a possibility of renting additional bedrooms for up to a total of 26 guests if needed.
Each room is diverse in color, type, view and furnishings, while all combine elegance and modern day comforts: air conditioning, minibar, safe, satellite color television, telephone with internet access.
All are meticulously furnished and represent the perfect departure point from which to discover the artistic and natural riches that the surrounding area has to offer, such as Bolgheri, Castagneto Carducci, Volterra and Massa Marittima.
As well as being an ideal base for visits, the castle itself manages to gracefully combine modern comforts with the refinement of a period residence.
Guests feel at home thanks to the welcome and the tailor-made services offered those who visit.
The castle is a splendid historical home, just opposite the Island of Elba, which looks out onto an olive grove and is within easy reach of many artistically and historically interesting Tuscan towns and cities.
It's gardens guarantee complete privacy. It's architecture, furnishings and décor are of late 16th Century noble Tuscan style.
The castle is designed on two floors.
On the ground floor, there is a very important entrance hall enriched with oil paintings and furnished with an important 18th Century wooden table.
Upon entering, to the left of the entrance hall is a small sitting room, containing antique wooden writing table and bookcase.
At the end of the entrance hall, and to the left is a sitting room with a fireplace and a bar in the corner, and one can also access the small and intimate living room richly furnished with an antique chest, two very comfortable lounges covered in a rich damask fabric, color satellite television, VCR and an internet point where guests can consult the web at their leisure.
On the right hand side of the entrance hall, there is a ceramic tiled and well lit dining room, where guests will enjoy their buffet breakfast, along with lunch and dinner should they so choose.
At the end of this dining room, one has access to a much smaller and very intimate dining room and the kitchen.
The kitchen is fully equipped with ice making machine, American coffee machine, and a professional refrigerator.
The first floor can be reached via two staircases; one to the left and one to the right of the entrance hall.
At the end of the first staircase, one comes across a lovely suite with a large terrace. It's décor is in the scale of green.
Beside this suite, there are two double bedrooms and another bedroom suite.
The tower can also be accessed from this wing of the castle, which hosts a gracious and intimate double bedroom.
Descending this staircase, one has access to the mezzanine level, where you find another double bedroom, a junior suite and the staircase which leads to an attic, it too with a junior suite. This room features exposed wood beams and a commanding view of the landscape.
The second staircase, to the right of the entrance hall, is a grand structure furnished with two antique suits of armor.
It leads to the imposing Grand Duke’s bedroom. This junior suite looks out onto both the front and rear gardens, and is painted cardinal red. It also contains antique furnishings, including a 17th Century bed head, bookcases and grand piano.
This second staircase also leads to two additional bedroom suites, one overlooks the southern garden and the other looks out onto the northern garden.
All the bedrooms are equipped with air conditioning, mini bar, private safe, color satellite television, telephone with independent external line and modem access, radio and personal alarm clock.
