Lake Como Villa 8802 is one of the most beautiful and historical villas on Lake Como.
The original house was built by the Odescalchi family and was passed on in the 1700’s to Count Andrea Passalacqua. The Count hired the prominent Swiss architect, Felice Soave, to add onto the villa creating one of the larger villas on Lake Como (3,000 square meters).
The villa has numerous important works of art internally. The most significant of which are the frescoes painted by Andrea Appiani. Appiani is considered one of the most influential neo-classical artists of Europe and one of his most acclaimed works is found here, namely the Madonna and Child which was painted in 1790. Appiani’s talent and acclaim lead him to become the official painter of Napoleon upon his arrival to Milan in 1796.
The Villa’s most famous long term guest was Vincenzo Bellini who stayed intermittingly at the Villa from 1829 to 1833.
The Villa offers a Main House of 12 bedrooms and a Guest House of 6 bedrooms for a total of 18 bedrooms in all, for up to as much as 33 guests.
One enters the Villa through two enormous and exquisitely carved Venetian bronze doors. The doors were carved specially for the Villa in the early 1800’s. The villa is filled with beautifully ornate ceilings throughout, which represent works of art in themselves.
On the ground floor is a double kitchen with beautiful cabinetry, Viking and Gaggeneau ranges, Sub-Zero refrigerator, wine cooler, garbage disposals, gas grill, steamer, fryer and numerous other special kitchen instruments and features. The counter tops are all green Verona marble. The most important feature of the kitchen are two 8 ft high stone fireplaces that are original to the villa and bear the emblem of the owner’s family.
Adjacent to the kitchen is a gorgeous columned dining room with an Appiani fresco overhead.
Next to the dining room is a less formal dining room with elegantly rustic Italian furniture and an attached family room for relaxing and watching TV.
Also on the ground floor is a Walnut paneled wine room, with seminato floors and painted ceilings depicting various grapes and vines.
The entry hall is a stunning affair with 40 ft. high ceilings and a magnificent staircase leading to the first floor landing.
Other areas on the ground floor include the proprietor's den, a billiard room, a bar area and cinema, and a pizzeria.
The bar area and cinema is a beautiful wood paneled room with a wooden bar and marble counter tops. The cinema is a sophisticated system which is a pleasure in the evenings when guests choose to stay in the villa rather than seek entertainment elsewhere.
The pizzeria remains one of the proprietor's favorite rooms. It is a rustic room with a round vaulted ceiling. It features a beautiful large fireplace and an authentic brick pizza oven. This room is used for casual evenings when guests prefer an informal but exquisite dinner of pizza. The pizzeria is decorated with rustic Tuscan furniture.
The first floor offers 4 bedrooms. All of the rooms are decorated with antiques and Persian rugs.
The corner bedroom suite includes stunning antique wooden floors, an enormous sitting room, and an English bathroom.
Next to this suite is a magnificent gym and workout room with restored, decorative wooden floors, entertainment system, TV and VCR plus equipment such as a stair stepper, Glidex, and weight sets.
