The present owners bought the house and policies in 1995 and have spent considerable time and money on refurnishing, modernizing and decorating the house to the highest standards. All bedrooms have en suite bathrooms with attractive Italian ceramic tiles. The public rooms have a wonderful atmosphere created by excellent working fires and a surround sound music system. House Scotland 5581 provides for any preference; from the large entrance hall - a venue for a dance or two; to the elegance of the formal drawing room, perfect for pre-dinner drinks; to the paneled sitting room with its comfortable sofas and large screen television with digital-satellite connection. During the recent refurbishment, most of the internal walls were rebuilt and insulated to North American standards. Secondary glazing and elaborate cornice were installed throughout. The electrical wiring and plumbing was renewed. A new water supply was sourced to provide pure spring water from a 120 ft deep well.
Since the late 1800's, House Scotland 5581 has had several owners who were responsible for much of the planning and planting of the gardens. Today, the gardens and grounds of Scatwell are well renowned and a key feature of the property. The gardens prove a popular attraction when they are open to the public once a year with traditional Scottish musicians performing at various locales. The gardens were featured in an article in the August 5th, 1999 edition of the U.K.'s, Country Life magazine. There are superb specimen trees from many parts of the world which have been labeled, including mature conifers, silver firs, oaks, beeches, birch, monkey puzzles, cedars and Japanese umbrella pine.
Today House Scotland 5581 ranks amongst the finest mansions in the Scottish Highlands.
